History of Kuhn

Kuhn was founded around 50 years ago. Over the decades, the company has experienced continuous development and growth.

2022: Acquisition of the Romanian family business Marcom

In 2022, Kuhn acquired the Romanian family-owned company Marcom, adding approximately 70 new employees to its workforce. Marcom specialises in the distribution of Komatsu construction machinery, making the acquisition a strategic expansion for the Kuhn Group. Marcom has since been rebranded as Kuhn Romania.

2020: Opening of new locations

In 2020, Kuhn Group welcomed several new additions to its family:

The new service location in Most, Czech Republic, commenced operations after just 10 months of construction.
The EMCO Technology Centre in Wendlingen, near Stuttgart, was inaugurated.
A new sales and service centre for construction machinery in Wörth an der Donau was established, effectively expanding the location network. This enables Kuhn to provide excellent local service with reduced travel times to customers in Lower Bavaria and the Upper Palatinate.

2019: Opening of the new premises in Heimberg

After about a year of construction, Kuhn Schweiz AG was able to move into the new company building in Heimberg.

2017: Opening of new buildings in Prague

While Kuhn Bohemia got a new company headquarters, Kuhn MT’s new service location opened in Čestlice.

2016: New service location in Brno

The service location for Kuhn Bohemia and Kuhn MT in Brno was completed and commenced operations.

2015: Inauguration of the Kuhn headquarters in Hohenlinden near Munich

After close to a year of construction, Kuhn Baumaschinen Deutschland’s headquarters was inaugurated.

2014: New Kuhn location in the Swiss municipality of Lommis

Kuhn’s new location in the Swiss municipality of Lommis enables the company to optimally serve customers in eastern Switzerland as well as in the greater Zurich area.

2011: Acquisition of machine tool manufacturer EMCO

The acquisition of the leading machine tool manufacturer EMCO has provided Kuhn Group with the possibility to further expand its range of products and services alongside the existing divisions of construction machinery and cranes & handling systems. Following the merger, Kuhn Group now employs a total of 1,330 members of staff, generating a combined turnover of 575 million euros.

2010: Opening of the new service location in Senec (Bratislava)

After a construction period of approximately seven and a half months, the new service location of Kuhn Slovakia was opened. Spanning around 2,700 square metres of workshop space and about 1,000 square metres of office area, the facility provides comprehensive services to customers of the construction machinery and cranes & handling systems business divisions.

2008: Successful relocation of Kuhn MT’s service location in the Czech Republic

After a construction period of one year, the new service location of Kuhn MT in the northern region of Budweis (Czech Republic) was successfully completed and opened. Serving as the headquarters for the cranes & handling systems division, the facility boasts over 2,600 square metres of workshop space and 900 square metres of office space.

2007: Finalisation of the Kuhn Holding site and the Kuhn Baumaschinen headquarters in Austria

After a construction period of approximately 18 months, the construction of the Kuhn Holding building and the headquarters of Kuhn Baumaschinen Austria in Eugendorf was successfully completed. The facility now provides over 2,700 square metres of workshop space and 1,400 square metres of office space, serving as a comprehensive service centre for construction machinery and a workshop centre for cranes & handling systems.

2006: Foundation of Kuhn Polska Sp.z.o.o.

In 2006, Kuhn acquired the distribution rights for Mitsubishi forklift trucks for the Polish market.

2004: Expansion of the sales territory of Kuhn Baumaschinen in Germany

Kuhn Baumaschinen Deutschland expanded its sales territory in Bavaria and now also serves large parts of Baden-Württemberg.

2002: New European headquarters for Kuhn cranes & handling systems

In 2002, the service location in Vöcklabruck was expanded to become the European headquarters of Kuhn cranes & handling systems and the competence centre for heavy-duty cranes. The site also houses the IT centre and the central training and further education centre for employees of the Kuhn cranes & handling systems division.

2001: Sons of the company founder join the Kuhn Group

In 2001, a significant event took place as the two sons of the company founder, Günter Kuhn, joined the company. Andreas Kuhn and Stefan Kuhn became actively involved in the family business. This year also marked the beginning of the expansion of the Kuhn construction equipment division with the establishment of the subsidiary Kuhn Baumaschinen Deutschland GmbH.

2000: Acquisition of Swiss Komatsu importer Küpfer

In 2000, Kuhn successfully acquired Küpfer, the Swiss importer of Komatsu. This acquisition led to the establishment of Kuhn Schweiz AG, which now operates with locations in Heimberg (Berne) and Lommis (Zurich).

1996: Foundation of Kuhn Hrvatska in Croatia

In 1996, Kuhn Hrvatska was founded in Zagreb, Croatia. This location serves as a sales and service organisation, offering Komatsu construction machinery and Mitsubishi forklifts to its customers.

1995: Foundation of Kuhn d.o.o. in Slovenia and Kuhn MT s.r.o. in the Czech Republic

In 1995, two new companies were founded:

Kuhn d.o.o. in Ljubljana, Slovenia, serves as the general importer for Komatsu construction machinery and Mitsubishi forklifts.
Kuhn MT s.r.o. in the Czech Republic is the general importer of PALFINGER cranes. This marks a clear separation between the construction equipment and cranes & handling systems business divisions.

1994: Kuhn acquires the general agency for Komatsu construction machinery

In 1994, Kuhn acquired the general agency for Komatsu construction machinery. This acquisition paved the way for Kuhn to become one of the largest dealers for Komatsu in Europe.

1992: Foundation of Kuhn Bohemia a.s. in the Czech Republic

In 1992, Kuhn expanded its operations by establishing Kuhn Bohemia a.s. in Prague. The company serves as a service and sales organisation for construction machinery in the Czech Republic.

1990: Kuhn’s first foreign subsidiary in Budapest

Kuhn’s first foreign subsidiary, Kuhn KFT, was established in Budapest. Kuhn achieved market leadership for forklifts with combustion engines in partnership with Mitsubishi. In 2003, Kuhn KFT relocated to its new headquarters, further solidifying its presence in the region.

1986: General agencies for PALFINGER cranes and Mitsubishi forklifts

In 1986, Kuhn acquired the general agencies for PALFINGER cranes and Mitsubishi forklift trucks. In addition, Kuhn Ladetechnik (cranes & handling systems) was founded.

1973: Foundation of Kuhn Baumaschinen

In 1973, Günter Kuhn founded Kuhn Baumaschinen (construction machinery) in Eugendorf near Salzburg, marking the beginning of the company’s history. This pivotal moment laid the foundation for an impressive success story.
